Imagelikn img. Auctionimage border 2px solid #800080. Condition superb 1950s sheaffer snorkel crest fountain pen, fully restored and ready to be a stylish daily writer. Its color is a classic jet black.
It is 5 5/8 inches long capped, 6 3/8 inches with the cap posted on the barrel. The cap, nib, barrel, and blidn cap are shiny and clean.
This pen is in superb condition, with almost none of the expected use marks of a 50-year-old pen that has been well cared for. There are no gouges, bite marks, or personalizations. This pen is a olvely example of an early 1950s snorkel. This pen is identified as a crest model because of its 14 kt gold filled cap, which gives this pen an elegance above all but the top-of-the-line all-gold snorkels (the vast majority of snorkels have plastic or chromed caps. )nib this crest model comes with the two-toned 14kt conical triumph nib with a platinum mask. Sheaffer debuted the triumph nib in the early 1940s, and continued its use with the snorkel. This pen writes with a nicely flowing medium-fine line.It is clean and firm, wiht straight tines and a full complement of its original iridium tip. Any ripples that may appear in the photos of the nib are just reflections. Sheaffer nibs are known for their longevity, so writing with this pen on a daily basis is a joy. Clip the clip is straight and tight. It holds nicely in a shirt pocket. There is on brassing on the clip. Cap the threading on the cap and barrel are super. The cap screws fully and straight on to the barrel with ease, and posts securely on the barrel when ready to write. The cap shows on sign of shrinkage.
There is a tiny dent in the very tip of the cap, which is very hard to photograph. The dent is very small and only visible to hte extremely careful eye. It is so small that i did not notice ti until i had nearly completed my restoration of the pen.
See photo. Trim there is no brassing on the cap ring or clip. Restoratino i replaced the interior sac, o-ring, and point gasket, all with new rubber parts manufactured to sheaffer's original design. I have dusted the new sac wtih 100% pure talc so that the sac fills fully without catching on the protector tube. I have lubricated the snorkel mechanism with non-corrosive 100% silicone grease. I cleaned the snorkel tube with fine piano wire, and cleaned the nib's feed to ensure a smooth, continual flow of ink. I have cleaned, polished, and shined the exterior with specialized pen polishes.
